They say that the Marine Corps training is the toughest training in the US Armed Forces and it will probably be the longest 13 weeks of your entire life. Reading and researching about what really happens in the boot camp is not meant to scare you but it should help you prepare for USMC boot camp. A lot of recruits fail because of their lack of physical and mental preparedness, some couldn't just take it. The main reason why you want to be prepared is because you want to increase your chances of being successful.
Gather as much information as you can and read about true experiences from former Marines themselves. There are a lot of books that are available online. It would also help if you can join in some forums and chat with people who are considering the same path. If you're lucky, you can talk to a real Marine. This will make you prepare for USMC boot camp. Although you will still be shocked once you enter the camp but at least you know more or less what to expect unlike others who did not read at all.
Start a fitness routine as soon as possible to prepare for USMC boot camp. Make sure you run on concrete and practice running for 3 miles everyday. Do a lot of pull-ups, push-ups and sit-ups. If you're overweight, find out about the weight requirements and shed off some pounds if necessary. Also, you have to be comfortable in water because you cannot graduate unless you pass the swim qualification.
Lastly, if you have a nearby local recruiting office, take advantage of it. They can offer support to help you become physically and mentally fit for the Marines.
