Buffalo Hunting

The idea of hunting the great beast seemed larger than life to me. The biggest animal I ever hunted was a mule deer. I had many questions. Some companies do not have the buffalo on the animals that were offered by their company. Some companies laughed at me. Some were serious .. I finally found an agent of the southernmost tip of the hillside village in Texas. I asked. The officer thought it was a suitable animal to be found within my price range. Weexchanged emails for weeks. What kind of gun should I bring? I was informed that the success of buffalo hunting with the lowest probability of error should be the most powerful weapon you can shoot accurately lead. I had dreamed of hunting African decades. I had bought a gun shot enough to hunt elephants and buffalo before. I thought this would be a preliminary game for hunting, I always dreamed of. The Cape buffalo hunt inAfrica. What else is exciting? The thought of going against the Black Death held out most nights sleep. inyati M'bogo or as it is called in Africa, the hunt of a lifetime for me.

A staff member of Texas has called and told me that I could get a good deal on a buffalo. The animal, which had in mind for me was intended as a media and rogue bull. The agent told me he was so keen that the farmer was unable to financially maintain the animallonger. The animal was struggling and sometimes injuring his buffalo others. I digested this function reasonably well. I was prepared. This is what I requested. Hunting an animal that can deliver punishment. Unless the caliber and shot by hunters who were likely to have problems. I received an email from this gentleman. Now he asked me if I shot it with a gun in his hand. I would score higher in the book, when I listened to his advice. I got the highest score of the students inSome of the classes I took. I realized the limitations of guns on large animals. I had to record a 45-70 caliber pistol. I was cut and bleeding due to the recoil on almost every shot. The 454 casual I did not bleed, but he had a heavy tractor and it was difficult to shoot accurately. I am a great person, young or not fast enough to dodge from behind a furious animal. I thought the statement .. Visions of Dance 416 Remington Magnumin my head.

practice sessions with the 416 was brutal. There is a big difference between the recoil and H H Mag 375 and 416. I put a good space at the top of the beast. They had met, but not the best of friends. I could get my photos good enough to finish in a 100 meters I started to believe that the animal would be in trouble.

The agent called again. This time he made me aware of the actions of a client recently. The great white hunter had come to Dallas with abuffalo hunting crew. The hunter is a bad blow to the animal. The man with the camera advanced the animal with a warning to stay back from the rail. The cameraman got too close and was hooked from the buff for his efforts. The charge buff the hunter with the unexpected result of the hunter threw his gun and turns in the opposite direction. The buff now turned his attention to driving. The guide emptied his gun on the animal, while running for hislife. The animal is then dropped and the game was saved.

After hearing the story of who I was excited. This would be a yacht that is almost a duplicate of my hunting expected to Cape buffalo.

Deer Hunting Tips - Choosing A Location For A Tree Stand

The purpose of these deer hunting tips is to help you find that perfect location for a tree stand so you'll have a successful hunt.

Before the season starts, you need to spend some time scouting where the deer are. You'll want to do this about four weeks before the season starts, but not too early as the deer may have changed their trail routes (because of changes in food sources or due to water sources drying up etc.). Of course you can scout much earlier to become knowledgeable about the area you want to hunt, but just make sure you re-evaluate the area before the season starts. Just be careful as possible not to leave much of your scent behind, and make as few changes to the surrounding brush as you can. Once you find your spot, get your tree stand mounted so deer can get used to seeing it.

You want to find food sources that the deer will actually be eating during hunting season. Nut-producing trees should be dropping nuts by the time the season starts so try to locate deer tracks where there are acorns, hickory, or beechnuts lying around. Deer also eat foods such as grass, berries, apples, herbs, clover, farm crops, raspberry cane, ferns, mushrooms, red and black mangrove, and Indian mulberry. Look for trails that lead to food sources such as these.

Also look for areas with thick brush where deer like to sleep. You'll find trails that lead out of these beds towards the areas deer like to feed. Keep in mind that large bucks tend to go further off the well established trails into deeper brush so you may not see well-worn trails into these beds. When these bucks go off to feed, that's when they'll usually join the more established trails, or at least follow parallel to them.

You may want to look for multiple sites to place a tree stand since over-hunting one site will cause too much scent to be left behind and deer will then avoid the area.

One of the problems with tree-stand hunting is that it can be pretty boring while you sit and wait for a deer to arrive. When you're bored you tend to get drowsy or fall asleep. Of course you want to make sure you are fastened to the tree so you don't fall out. But the other problem is that you won't be ready when a deer approaches. A hunter who isn't alert is more likely to make noise or sudden movements that spook the deer, or make inaccurate shots. Or worse, you'll sleep right though a deer passing. One solution is to get out of the tree stand when you get tired. But there is another solution too.

By finding well-defined trails that you know deer follow, you can set up heat and motion detectors that will alert you when deer are approaching. You can get a deer hunting trail monitor system that has remote motion sensors that can be placed thousands of feet away from you. These sensors send a voice command back to a hand held radio (with earphone) so you'll be alerted to approaching deer. You'll even know what direction the deer are coming from. If you plan to use these, make sure you find well-established trails.

With these deer hunting tips you can confidently know where to select a tree stand for the best chances of a successful hunt. Combine these with other deer hunting tips you find on the Web and you'll have a winning season!

Choosing the Right Arrows for Bowhunting

There are two things to consider when choosing the right arrows for bowhunting - what arrow weight you want to shoot, and how stiff the shaft needs to be to complement your draw weight and arrow length. Not every bowhunter wants the lightest and fastest arrows - shooting feather-weights can actually damage your bow. Light arrows absorb as much of the bow's energy as heavier arrows do, so if your arrows are consistently too light, the vibrations can damage your bow.

According to The Archery Manufacturer's Organization (AMO), the standard minimum arrow weight should be roughly six grains for lighteach pound of your bow's maximum draw weight (in other words, a 60-pound bow should take a 360-grain arrow). A heavy modern hunting arrow weight about 8 to 10 grains per pound - if you're interested in speed, you can go as light a 5 grains per pound, but that should be as light as you go.

Shaft stiffness is important because of the pull-and-release manner in which arrows leave the bow. With a finger-released arrow, it has to go through a series of oscillations called "paradox" that begins when the string leaves your fingers - bending of the arrow's shaft has to be timed perfectly so it passes around the bow without hitting the riser. So, to achieve good flight, your arrow shafts have to be an exact match for your bow and your release style. It's different for mechanical-release bows - there's less flex, and it's almost all confined to an up-and-down movement, so you you can get away with a wider range of shaft stiffness and still get good arrow flight.

Point weight is also an important element of choosing the correct arrow stiffness, especially if you release with fingers. Determine what broadhead weight you'll be using to hunt with before buying your arrows, and then get some off-season practice with field points of the same weight. If you'll be hunting whitetail deer, you'll be shooting from an average 20 yards, a distance that a mid-weight arrow can handle easily. A heavier arrow will require more accuracy on your part as it's slower, but you'll have a quieter shoot with maximum penetration. Lightweight arrows are great for target practice, but unless you have keen eyesight and regularly shoot at 25 yards or more, they're best left alone. Choosing the right arrows for bowhunting is a matter of style, what kind of bow you have, and simple trial-and-error.

The History Of Knives - Learn Where It All Started

Knives are one of the oldest and most useful human tools. Our ancestors used sharp stones or wood pieces to do what knives today do. They were used to cut, prick and carve and stood as a symbol of bravery. With the invention of metal, there was an evolution of the most used human tool, knife. As civilization advanced, various types of metals used in making knives (through the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age) emerged.

In prehistoric times flints were used to make knives. Flint is a hard, sedimentary cryptocrystalline silicate form of the mineral quartz. As time and invention advanced with the discovery of fire and annealing in metallurgy, the art of melting metals came and men molded metals for knives. Initially knives were made of bronze and iron. Later, knife making advanced and knives with metal alloys and combination of metals were produced - now, these have to stainless steel knives.

Early men used the knives as weapons, tools, and utensils for eating. Historically, knives were decorated with feathers. People took pride in possessing a sharp and beautiful knife. Later gold and silver designs were embedded in the knives. Some knives were exclusively meant for men and some for women; some were made for use by both sexes.

Jeweled metal knives were a proud possession of warriors. Traditionally, people carried their own knives in special sheaths attached to their belts. Such knives were narrow with sharp edges and were used to pierce food and raise food to one's mouth. Even to this day, the Gurkha people still practice carrying their knives anywhere and everywhere. The knife is a symbol of the Gurkha; it has religious significance, too.

As time evolved, knives were adopted to be used in the kitchen and at the dining tables; however, they retained their use as weapons and in the war field in the form of swords. Many of the native Indian idols of gods are symbolized holding various types of knives as weapons; this proves that knives are a prominent weapon in ancient Indian history. There is no historical account that does not mention the glory of the warrior's sword.

In all the cultures of the world, every authoritative head of any kingdom possessed a knife as a mark of bravery. The swords that declared victory in a battle were adorned and handed over to the legal heir. The sword as a knife is a legendary symbol of victory and a matter of pride to be possessed and exhibited.

Every king had a separate category of employers to maintain the knives that were used in the war. With the advancement of technology and the discovery of guns, however, the knife lost its place in battle fields. Nowadays, knives have evolved to serve domestic duties instead.

How Knife Sharpening is Done by Experts

Far from the conventional bench stone, Knife sharpening is nowadays a skilled area. Though such forms do exist nowadays, you can get much more sophisticated equipment now for sharpening any type of cutting device or knife. The tool you choose depends on your personal liking and what you need to sharpen.

Grinding Wheels for Sharpening

There are grains in grinding wheels, abrasive in nature, which help in sharpening the knives and cutting away all unevenness in the material. Wheels use abrasive materials of different types. The material that we come across in most wheels is aluminum oxide. A large variety of different oxides, are made use of for this purpose and are indicated by a number and a letter. For sharpening bronze, annealed iron, steel, and wrought iron Aluminum oxide is used.

A blend of zirconium oxide and aluminum makes Zirconia alumina. A combination of such proportions leads to a durable wheel apart from being great in sharpening materials made of alloys and steels. It is used very commonly almost next to aluminum oxide.

The latest material to be utilized for grinding wheels is Ceramic aluminum oxide. Being a sturdy material it is used whenever precision work is necessary. Ceramic aluminum oxide, at times, is blended with other abrasive materials. The blend normally changes according to the need and material that needs to be sharpened.

Wheels come in a gamut of shapes. The commonest form is the straight wheel. They have a front facing cutting edge. Another common shape is the cylinder wheel. In such wheels the front of the cylinder houses the cutting edge.

While choosing the right wheel, another factor to consider for the job is grit size. For example a lower number like twenty four or ten, means a wheel with a coarse grain. On the contrary a bigger number, say 180 or 100 is fine grain. These are used in finishing purposes since they can take away minute metallic pieces from the knife's edge.

Sharpening With A Bench Grinder

There are many who use Bench grinders for sharpening of knives, since they are a cheaper option. You can use these for sharpening lots of things like, knives, hand tools, drill bits, and cutters. The wheels are available in diameter sizes of 6 or 10 inches and can be mounted on a workbench. Normally the motor has a horsepower ranging from 1/3 to 1. In order to better the degree of sharpening accuracy and maintain the steadiness of the wheel, a good bench grinder uses a tool rest.

Sharpeners for Chain Saws

Do you have a chainsaw of your own? If you do, a chain saw sharpener is necessary. An easy option of sharpening a chainsaw is an automatic sharpener. When you lower the wheel the chain gets locked in place. The angle of the sharpener should be maintained and the tooth properly positioned; when finished the head should promptly be pulled up and the next tooth properly positioned. To make sure that the sharpening is uniform use automatic sharpeners.

Tactical and Other Kinds of Survival Knives

Tactical knives are usually an essential tool to the avid woodsman. You should utilize it prudently to get oneself away from danger.

For many who ordinarily are not acquainted of what a neck knife is, it's in fact compact fixed blade knife that is conveniently kept and transported using a neck string. Quite simply, you'll utilize the knife as a necklace around your neck; handle pointing downwads, along with a span of breakaway beaded chain much like the ones you observe in most military dog tags.

Although they are meant to be worn around the neck, there are also some that are suspended under the arm. Sometimes, they are hidden inside a person's shirt to provide cover, but this makes it difficult to retrieve the knife. Hence, it's often worn on the outside, making the drawing far easier and gets you in less trouble under US law for concealing weapons.

Being survivalist, it's actually under your control whether or not you prefer to get a knife including a separate survival kit or else you would probably want to contain the survival kit in the handgrip for reduced inconvenience.

A lot of merchants have various models of knives, many large, a few small as well as in diverse forms. Just about every knife blade will be attached by way of a knife tang to the handle. The less wide this particular tang may be, the smaller the actual knife blade that goes within the handle.

Take the Tanto blade as an example; there is a bottom edge and an obtuse tip that gives a knife remarkable sharpness. Its edge is known for a solid and smooth grind which provides good strength. Overall, this kind of mix is usually ideal so you can get the work completed quickly.

The JET 708475 Jointer Planer Combo Table

I've recently discovered a convenient, multi-use machine, The JET 708475 Jointer/Planer Combo table. The unique feature of this Euro-styled table is that it is both a Jointer and a Planer in one table. Why would you want one? Well, for instance, if you have a very small shop (like they have in Europe), the JET 708475 measures 59" x 29-1/2" x 39-2/5", that's 5 foot long bit of space to take up in your shop (which also might double as your garage).

Of course, five feet does make for a very short bed, which is one of the Jet 708475 Jointer/Planer's downsides. Another downside is that as a jointer/planer combo machine, the JET 708475 requires you to switch to either machine depending upon which you are going to use. Switching from the jointer to planer takes more time then just walking over to your other machine. Because of this necessary conversion, the fence supports aren't as sturdy as they are on a regular Jointer, such as the Powermatic 1285. But for $1700 versus $4000 for the Powermatic 1285, that's quite a value on a 12" Jointer, not to mention that the JET 708475 is also a Planer.

Features:

There are some pretty special features of the Jet 708475 12 inch Planer/Jointer Combo Kit. The planer shares three standard, high-speed-steel cutter knives with the jointer that run at 5500 RPM and make 16500 cuts per minute. The knives measure 12 inch long x 1-1/2 inch wide. The JET 708475 planes rough stock, virtually snipe free, up to 12 inch wide at a rate of 5/32 inch per pass. The JET 708475 also features a sturdy, half-closed, chip-resistant, powder-coated stand. The cast-iron bed is precision ground and polished for consistently smooth operation. The integrated 4 inch dust collection port provides efficient removal of dust, chips and other debris when in either jointer or planer mode.

The JET 708475 Jointer/Planer comes with two adjustable 27 inch outfeed and infeed tables and has a rabbeting ledge to provide for precise rabbets. With large handles and oversized springs, this 500 pound baby is a breeze to lift (well, almost). Basically, if you have a small shop or you need an inexpensive 12 inch Jointer, the JET 708475 Jointer/Planer Combo table for $1700 is fantastic option.

Why Would You Need to Use Wood Biscuits?

When working on a woodwork project you should probably try to use glue in order to hold everything together. Glue makes a good finished product, however there is an even better way. Wood biscuits can be used to hold everything together better than just glue alone.

Wood biscuits are small pieces of wood which are oval shaped. These are inserted into the wood using a biscuit joiner. Biscuits are a fairly new invention, previous options included wooden pegs.

Wooden biscuits are a great way of fixing two pieces of wood together when something more than glue is required. These can prevent the unsightly seams. You can't just use glue for fine woodworking projects.

Biscuits are quite simple to use, you need to purchase a biscuit joiner which is a tool to help you to insert the biscuit by cutting the hole into both pieces of wood. You then need to apply some glue to the biscuit and then put it in the slot which has been cut. Hold the two pieces of wood together until the glue dries.

Biscuits are a very strong and durable way of holding pieces of wood together. Sometimes glue doesn't hold strong enough, in which case you should consider using a biscuit joint. Biscuits are normally made out of wood dust which is then compressed into shape. The biscuit actually expands when the glue dries which tightens up the joint and reduces any gap.

Most biscuits are very thin, most around 1/14 of an inch. These are available in different thicknesses depending on the purpose you are buying them for. There are three main types of wood biscuit in different sizes:

- Size zero is 5/8 inch wide and one and ¾ inches long

- Size ten is ¾ of an inch wide

- Size twenty is one inch wide

The sizes of biscuits vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you want a certain size then you should look around until you can find it.

Quite simply the size of biscuit which you choose to use will depend on what you are using it for. You should ideally try to use the biggest size of biscuit which your project will allow. By using large biscuits it will make your wood working project much more durable. It is possible to use a biscuit for any type of joint, however there are certain joints which are well suited to them. If you are fixing an edge to edge joint such as in dining room tables then biscuits can be great ways to achieve this. If you are cutting a miter joint then biscuits are another really good way to fix these together.

In corner joints such as in drawers biscuits have been used for years. Biscuits can also be used for T-Joints as they provide extra stability.

When you want to start using wood biscuits to join pieces of wood together there are certain things which you must bear in mind. Firstly you should store biscuits carefully. The biscuits should be stored so that they remain clean and dry. Wood biscuits can easily become damaged by water and moisture, this can cause them to swell up which means they cannot be used. You need to make sure that all of your joints fit together properly before you start your woodworking project. Check that they fit together before applying glue.

You can normally buy wood biscuits in bulk at your local hardware stores. It's also possible to purchase these from the internet if you enjoy shopping on the net!

How to Read a Tape Measure

Tape measures are used when building stuff. It is important to make precise measurements in order to build precisely. First time when trying to read the tape measure it all seems nonsense. But once you get used to the notations and meanings it will be a piece of cake.

First let's understand the units of measurement. The basic unit is a foot. A foot has 12 inches. One inch is further subdivided in 16 parts. The notation for the inch is ''. The notation for the foot is '. This way when you see 3' 9-3/16'' this will be read as "three feet, 9 and three sixteenths inches".

It is easy to read the feet and inches on the measuring tape. The hard part is to read the subdivisions of the inches. As we mentioned previously there are 16 divisions in an inch. Each line representing a division has a different length to recognize it easier.

The longest line is the inch line. The second longest is the half inch line. The third longest is the quarter inch line. The fourth longest line is the eighth inch line. And the shortest line is the smallest subdivision - the 1/16 inch line.

Once you know what each line means and which are the divisions you can mode forward. It's important to be able to distinguish the 1/16'' line from the 1/8'' one. Once you are able to do this let's say you need to measure 3/16'' as in the example. All you will have to do is look for the third line among the subdivisions. If you were to measure 5/8'' you just had to count 5 1/8'' lines.

There is nothing else to know about how to read a tape measure. If you learn the notations and divisions above you should have no difficulty.

Using a Table Saw For Jointing

Many woodworkers think the table saw cuts crude and uneven edge which must be cleaned up on a jointer prior to glueing. However, this isn't always true as the glue must penetrate into the wood if it is to do its job properly, so it needs open pores. A piece of wood has passed over a jointer blade too slow or over blunt knives can compress the wood which will prevent glue penetrating.

If you use the correct technique on a table saw, you can create a straight and square surface which is slightly abraded, this is ideal for glued joints. The trick to this is mostly in the way in which you feed the board through the blade. It has to move at a constant speed without wavering.

You must ensure that you use the correct blade for this job. In my experience the triple chip blade on a relatively powerful saw is the best way to achieve clean straight jointable edges. However, be careful of cheap triple chip blades, as the quality will definitely affect your cut. A saw with a minimum of 3 hp is necessary to ensure that you get the best edge possible. This doesn't mean you cannot do it on the less powerful saws but it will be more difficult.

Your left hand should guide the board along the fence, place it on the left side of the board. Your right hand should do the pushing, always keep it on the very end of the board with a consistent forward pressure. Make sure your left foot is as far forward as possible but remain comfortable. As you push the board through the blade lean forward onto your left foot and continue the consistent pressure, this way you should only need to take one smooth step with your right foot to reach the saw and finish the cut.

I would advise you to start with a piece of scrap timber and practice until you are used to the technique, your joints will love you for it.

SDS Carbide Tipped Drill Bits For Drilling Concrete

What is a carbide tipped drill bit?

Whenever a post-installed concrete anchor is being used to attach a fixture to cured concrete, a hole must be drilled in the concrete. One popular type of drill bit that is used to drill into cured concrete is the SDS carbide tipped drill bit. SDS is simply the bit retention system - or how the bit is held in the drill. There is some debate as to what the "SDS" acronym stands for. The original German interpretation was "Steck-Dreh-Sitz" meaning Insert-Twist-Stay. As the bit evolved, it has come to be known as a Slotted Drive System or Slotted Drive Shaft. The SDS carbide tipped drill bit is a masonry bit designed for concrete drilling. But unlike ordinary bits, the SDS drill bit provides a longer service life. These carbide tipped masonry drill bits are more durable due to the hardness of the heads- making them tougher and more resistant to extreme loads.
How is a carbide tipped drill bit made?

The SDS drill bit is made up of 5 parts.

1. First, there is the shank, which has two sets of grooves (for a total of four grooves) that fit into the hammer drill collar. The smaller of the grooves are two slots that are not open at the end and prevent the bit from falling out. The larger of the grooves are two grooves that extend to the end of the shank and when chucked in the drill, guide the SDS bit to a positive rotation. This set of grooves also allows the bit to slide in the chuck, enhancing the drilling torque and hammering energy of the tool.

2. The next component of the SDS bit is the land - which is the raised portion of the spiral (similar to the crest or peak of a wave).

3. The third area is the flute, or the trough section of the spiral. The flute facilitates the removal of the concrete dust as the hole is being drilled.

4. The last two components of the SDS bit are the head and the carbide tip, which work together to break up the concrete. The carbide is brazed on to the head to harden the tip of the SDS bit to assist in the breaking of the concrete.

How is this type of drill bit used?

SDS bits are designed for use with a rotary hammer drill. The SDS bit is placed into the end of the drill and is held in place by twisting the chuck of the drill, locking the bit in the collar. The SDS masonry bit is not held solidly in the chuck of the drill, but slides up and down like a piston. The slots in the shank of the SDS bit accept the two ball bearings in the spring loaded chuck of the hammer drill and will remain chucked until disengaged by the user.

The hammer drill should only be used in the hammering and rotation position when using an SDS bit to drill into concrete. The bit will both rotate and reciprocate at the same time. When the trigger is pulled on the hammer drill, a gear driven crank moves a piston back and forth within the pneumatic chamber. The compressed air within the chamber propels the SDS carbide steel bit forward, delivering a concrete destroying impact. The use of a SDS drill bit in a hammer drill can drill a 3/4" diameter hole, 4" in depth, in about 30 seconds.

A good rotary hammer drill can drive an SDS bit into concrete without too much effort from the user. In most drilling application pushing harder on the drill will speed up the process. This is not the case with a hammer drill and SDS bit. The SDS bit is actually reciprocating and turning at the same time. Pushing down on the drill will only slow its progress and cause the bit to deteriorate faster.
When should a SDS carbide bit be used?

The SDS carbide tipped drill bit is used for two reasons. The first is to drill holes into concrete, brick or block for the installation of a concrete fastener. The second is to drill holes in concrete, brick or block to create a path for installing wiring and plumbing.

When using an SDS carbide drill bit to drill into a wall, it is important to support the weight of the hammer drill. If the drill does not receive the proper support, the bit itself will carry a portion of the weight. This may cause undue pressure on the flute of the bit possibly causing the drill bit to break in the hole.

It is important not to drill a hole deeper than the intended drilling depth of the bit. This could cause an interruption in the dust removal and increase the amount of heat on the carbide tip. Heat build up on the carbide may melt the brazing material, allowing the carbide plate to move. This possibly could lead to the bit failing in breaking the concrete.
Some suggestions for increasing the life of your SDS drill bits:

* Before drilling, check to see that the carbide tip is in good shape.

* Inspect the connection to make sure that there is not excessive wear. This helps prevent the drill bits from getting stuck in the chuck.

* Lubricate the connection end of the bit to allow the bit shank to slide in the chuck. This is done by applying a small amount of grease to the grooves of the shaft (no more than a quarter inch dollop).

* Let the tool do the work. When used in a quality hammer drill, the SDS drill bit will cut into concrete with relative ease. Hold the drill level and apply pressure evenly throughout the hole drilling process.

The SDS shank is the most widely used shank type when drilling into concrete. The SDS shank has superb hammer performance, high torque transmission and the ease of one-handed, quick chucking operation.

Please remember with all fastening jobs to keep safety in mind. Always follow safety instructions on all tools, and refer to manufacturer's installation instructions when available and always remember to wear safety goggles!

Some Of The Reasons For The Continued Popularity Of The Case Pocket Knife

I have been a knife enthusiast from the very beginning and naturally I've gotten enough experience with them to enable me to value different types of knives. As a matter of fact, a wonderful knife that has been skillfully crafted from high quality steel is so awesome that anyone would appreciate it. Knives are undoubtedly one of the most significant tools for mankind and shall always remain so even after thousands of years. Since sharp implements with a stainless steel blade are one of the most essential items in every kitchen, knives have found a very significant role to play, even with novice cooks. However, not all knives are made for all purposes. Different kind of knives, with different shapes and designs are crafted to be used in different ways.

What are Case Pocket Knives?

The Case pocket knives are different types of knives made for different purposes. Case refers to a specific brand of knife that has been in existence for a very long period of time and is mainly renowned for knives such as the Old Timer. If you are searching for an appropriate pocket knife with long term durability and that is able to be used time and again, Case pocket knives may prove to be the best option. However, with the infiltration of several well-known brands and manufacturers today, Case has lost much of its traditional glory and is not at the top of the show at the moment. Still, Case knives have not been discarded by serious collectors.

The knife industry has changed in fashion to a great extent. With the advent of so many knife makers in the industry, the competition has increased and almost all of the manufacturers of knives have come up with good quality merchandise. The modern kinds of knives are very different from the classic traditional ones. Understanding these basic distinctions, great brand names like Strider have seriously engaged in making knives out of premium quality steel like S30V. This is the best grade of steel for making quality knives. This is really great news for knife collectors who are always eager to try or check out their blades.

If you are among those avid and crazy knife collectors who are searching for the Case pocket knife or any other similar item, then you need not look far. The details are just a click away. The Internet, I feel, is the best option for an effective and quick search. There are quite a few websites that can provide a great deal of information on the range of quality knives.

You can also go to knife shows where many people sell all different types of knives. Chances are you will find what you are looking for at one of them.

About Kydex Gun Holsters

Up until fifteen years ago, most gun holsters were traditionally made from leather. Since then, the holster industry has changed dramatically in the type of materials it uses to create its products. One of these newer materials, kydex, has a number of advantages and disadvantages that you should consider when buying a holster for your gun.

But first, what is kydex? Kydex is a synthetic thermoplastic material that currently dominates that gun holster market. From a material standpoint, its durability and other desirable characteristics make it hard to beat in this competitive market. Kydex is typically produced in sheets of varying thickness and color, which are then cut and formed. The sheets are non-porous and are easily molded into the desired shape by heating, forming, and cooling the material. In addition to gun holsters, other applications for this material include aircraft interiors, food processing equipment, electrical components, medical products, and store fixture components.

Today, nearly every style of gun holster (IWB, OWB, Tactical, and so on) is available in a kydex version. When formed as weapons holsters, kydex sheets have a number of advantages over leather:

1. They are waterproof. Over time, leather holsters can and will absorb moisture. This moisture can soak into the holster and affect the weapon finish, as well as produce a bad smell. Kydex is virtually waterproof, making it an excellent choice for use in humid or tropical climates. In addition, you can easily clean kydex holsters with a wet cloth.

2. They are scratch resistant. With a Rockwell R scale hardness of 90, a torn or damaged holster is a thing of the past.

3. They are easy to use. Kydex holds its shape, which makes for ease of re-holstering. Not only that, but holsters made from this material will not stretch or shrink under normal conditions.

4. They prevent finish wear. Gun finishes wear down over time from repeated holstering and re-holstering. A high-quality kydex holster significantly lessens the amount of friction caused by these actions, depending on the fit, quality, and make of the holster.

Along with these benefits, there is also one important drawback to kydex holsters: limited flexibility. Where leather is supple and conforms easily to the shape of the wearer's hip, kydex is a rigid thermoplastic that lacks this same flexibility.

Security Metal Detectors

Security metal detectors are basically used for the screening of any metallic object in security zones. Very Low Frequency or VLF technology is used in most common security metal detectors. Advanced security metal detectors use low radiation x-rays for screening. Security metal detectors are used in airport security checkpoints, prison security, courthouse security and government buildings. Security metal detectors also protect public places, schools, special events and conferences.

Security metal detectors are generally divided into two. They are hand held security metal detectors and walk through metal detectors. Super scanner is a hand held security metal detector used by security and law enforcement professionals. Super scanner detects medium sized pistols, knives and razor blades. The reduction switch in a super scanner is used to minimize sensitivity interference. It also consists of large scan surface and optional holder. Tactical hand held detectors are more advanced and need no adjustment. They detect stainless steel ferrous and non-ferrous weapons. The features include water proof, slip free handle and high impact plastic withstands.

Portable hand metal security detectors are used to detect weapons and other small pieces of metal carried by people. They also check baggage and fabric for both magnetic and non magnetic fields. The features include reliability, sensitivity and long battery life.

Walk through security metal detectors are based on different technologies. Security metal detectors with digital technology provide enhanced target detection coverage. These are widely used in airport security. Micro processor based security metal detectors can automatically eliminate electrical interference with x-ray devices. Heavyweight metal detectors are used in prisons. They can detect a variety of weapons.

There are multi zone and single zone walk through security metal detectors. Multi zone walk through metal detectors are used in high security levels. They have a sensitive device to detect conventional weapons such as pistols and knives. Multi zone metal detectors are easy to assemble and transport. Single zone walk through security metal detectors are used in schools and public environments. They have medium sensitivity. Single zone security metal detectors used in cruise ships are designed to suit the applications on decks. The features include water proof electronics to protect against humidity and water spray.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife

Victorinox was founded by Karl Elsner in 1884. That year he opened his own cutlery business in Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland. Before opening his business Karl had spent time in Paris and in Tuttlingen, Germany doing his apprenticeship. At Karl's cutlery shop the grinding and polishing machines were powered by a waterwheel which was powered by the Tobelbach brook.

In 1891 the Swiss Army first received the soldier's knife from Karl Elsner and on June 12, 1897 the Swiss Officer's and the Sports knives were patented. Karl's company was originally the only supplier of Swiss Army Knives to the Swiss Army. In 1908 his company had to share the supply contract with Wenger. The companies eventually reached an agreement that allowed Victorinox to advertise the Original Swiss Army Knife. Wenger was allowed to advertise the Genuine Swiss Army Knife.

Karl Elsner started using the cross and shield to identify his knives in 1909. The cross and shield is still used to identify a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife to this date. This same year his mother died and he decided to name his company "Victoria" after his mother. In 1921 stainless steel was invented and the company started using stainless steel to make the Swiss Army Knife. Stainless steel was also called "inox" (the French term for stainless steel is acier inoxydable). "Victoria" and "inox" were combined to create the company name Victorinox.

After world war II American PX shops started selling the "Swiss Officer's Knife" in large quantities to American soldiers. The soldiers started calling it the Swiss Army Knife for short and the name has stuck.

In 2002 Victorinox took over the other Swiss Army Knife maker, Wenger. Victorinox has said they intend to keep both brands of Swiss Army Knives intact. The Swiss Army Knife by Victorinox is a standard piece of equipment for NASA Astronauts and the Swiss Army Knife has been taken on treks to Mt. Everest and the Antarctic. Currently Victorinox has five lines of products. In addition to their Swiss Army Knife line they have Household & Professional knives, Watches, Clothing and Luggage.

As you can see the Swiss Army Knife by Victorinox has a long history and is depended on by many people under the harshest conditions. Victorinox as a company has a long history of quality and that quality can still be seen in their products today. Army Deployment Gear And What You Can Or Can't Send To Soldiers Though The Mail

What can you send to soldiers through the mail? A small handheld bible is never too big though! Mp3 players, multi tool (Gerber), good knife, camera, it just depends if he will spend more time inside or outside the wire. With some of the other units can't really say what they need or were they will be. Under armor. Both, cold weather and warm weather. I'm assuming he's going to be there through the seasons, and orders could change location. So you always want to make sure that they have something for both times of the year. Even if they don't use it as long as they have it that is all that matters.

The army will get them a list of what they need to pack for deployment. Ask them to write a "Wish list". That way you know to send them. You know the usual gift things. There might be a few things that you did not get for them and they will ask for them right away. Maybe something small like a flashlight, knife, or something that they need to just have fun with. I read about the mother sending silly string. The soldiers use it to detect trip wires. Spray it across an area if it falls to the ground its clear. That's just one way to be safe!

These are some of the things that you can not send though the mail: Arms, including air guns; and parts of arms and munitions. Binoculars. Coins; banknotes; currency notes; securities payable to bearer; traveler's checks; gold, silver, platinum, manufactured or not; precious stones; jewelry; and other valuable articles. Lighters containing butane gas. Non-preserved meats and soft fruits. Perishable infectious biological substances. Perishable noninfectious biological substances. Radioactive materials. Tapes or cassettes.

The answer is No, you can't send deodorant, and shaving cream if is an aerosol. Personally don't send them more because of the risk of explosion while in the cargo area (not all planes have pressurized cargo holds), Might want to call the post office directly and see what they have to say. Lord only knows what infectious and noninfectious biological substances there are.

How and why can you order silly string online (which is aerosol) and get it sent to your house if you aren't allowed to send aerosol through the mail? What do the companies do differently to be able to ship aerosol? I would say that they do this, maybe, because our packages stay longer inside hot places and they can explode...imagine if every package is full of aerosol. I mean in the States the stuff that you order on line will end up at your house in the mail in two to three days. But to send them overseas would take maybe a week or so if they don't have to stop some where else.

Then it will take another couple of days for it to actually reach the person the package is for. So they have a long time to wait in hot conditions or what ever else conditions there are just to reach who they were sent for. You can order aerosol items online from CVS and they will ship them via land shipping instead of air freight. I suspect it works the same way with the silly string?

They ship aerosols via ground shipments. This is why you can order it on the internet and have it shipped to you in side the US. Military mail sent overseas is not shipped ground. It is shipped on an airplane. That is why they do not allow aerosols. Neither FedEx nor UPS ship ground to Iraq (non FPO/APO) addresses. They only ship air and again they have regulations on what can be shipped.

Most companies do have factories all over the place including China, Thailand, Vietnam, India, etc. So that maybe the reason they can ship it anywhere. They also may send it a different way overseas to places like that. Most of the stuff that goes into the PX/Exchanges overseas is sent by ship, then off loaded and trucked. So with the silly string being there it was probably through the stores there it was purchased.

The Types and Uses of Various Hunting and Survival Knives

There are a great number of hunting and survival knives on the market, and each of them has its own use. Whether you are just a knife enthusiast and collector, or you are a frequent hunter or camper, you need to know exactly what each knife is for.

Knives are invaluable, and no outdoor enthusiast should ever be without one. There are special knives geared towards hunters and survivalists, and knowing the types of available knives and their uses will ensure you are always prepared.

One of the first things to think about when shopping for a knife is quality. While it may be tempting to buy a cheap knife from a bargain store, it is really not wise. A cheap knife will not be pleasant to use, and the worst case scenario is that it breaks when you need it most. Paying extra money for a really good blade that will last for a long time will pay off in the long run, and you will have peace of mind knowing your blade won't fail you in a critical moment.

When you are considering hunting knives, there are a few styles that stand out in popularity. Drop point blades are some of the most popular because they are so versatile. These have a blade with a sharp curve to them. They are made to stand up to abuse and complete almost any task you need.

Clip point blades are made of thinner steel, and have a sharp point on them. These are not as popular as drop point blades, but they still have their avid fans. A skinning blade is another blade that is specialized for its use. If you have trouble skinning your kills with another knife, consider getting one of these in addition to your all-purpose knife.

Some special additions survival blades have are serrated edges and gut hooks. Serrated edges are usually recommended for individuals going into the outdoors. These edges are best for cutting through tough materials such as wood and bone, which is often necessary. Gut hooks are found on the end of a blade, opposite the cutting edge. These are made for assisting in gutting kills quickly and efficiently.

Any knife you will be taking to the outdoors should be able to stand up to hacking, slicing and stabbing. Since you want to be prepared for anything, this criterion is a good start to choosing your blade.

Keep in mind that many of these knives come with both fixed blade and folding blade options. Fixed blades take up more space, and generally require a special sheath, but are sturdier. Folding blades are more compact, and can make for easier traveling, but may not stand up to as much abuse as a fixed blade. Consider how much you are going to be using your knife and for what when deciding what blade type to get.

Buying a hunting/survival knife is a rewarding process if you know what kind of knife you need. You certainly don't want to purchase the wrong knife, and you definitely don't want to realize it once you're on your trip. Take a good look around at your options, and you're sure to find a blade that is exactly what you need.
