A Real American Hero - God is Watching

Michael Jackson dies and it's 24/7 news coverage. A real American hero dies and not a mention of it in the news. The media has no honor and God is watching.

Vietnam Veteran Ed Freeman

You're a 19-year-old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley , 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the Media helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter and you look up to see an unarmed Huey, but it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.

He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out, through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses.

And he kept coming back, 13 more times, and took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient Ed Freeman died on Wednesday, June 25th, 2009, at the age of 80, in Boise , ID. May God rest his soul.

The media didn't give him the coverage he deserves and every red-blooded American should know.

THANKS AGAIN, ED, FOR WHAT YOU DID FOR OUR COUNTRY.

RIP

Quality Cutlery For Any Home Or Kitchen

If you are looking for quality cutlery for the home or for your business kitchen you will find that there are a lot of different options to choose from. Not only are there different sizes and styles, you will find that there are a lot of brands that are competing for your attention. Which ones are quality? Which ones are worth the money that you will need to pay for a quality set of knives? It can be overwhelming when you start shopping because there is so much to choose from and knives really are an investment if you do it right.

When shopping you will most certainly come across Henckels, which is a brand of well known knives. When you begin looking at this manufacturer you will find that they have many different tiers or collections of knives for you to choose from. They range from the most elite which are generally meant for the chef or restaurant kitchen all the way to the set that is made for and priced for use in the home. This will give you a broad assortment of knives to choose from, allowing for you to choose items or sets that will most definitely fit your needs so you don't get more or less than you need but you can also choose something that fits into your budget.

Wusthof is another great brand that you might want to look at. This brand is not as well known as Henckles, but this manufacturer brings as much quality and durability to the table as Henckle, but they are a bit different. If you have never tried this manufacturer before, you should be sure to hold one before you buy, just to make sure that it works well for your specific uses and the way that you like to hold a knife.

These are not the only brands for you to consider when shopping for cutlery, they are just two of the most well known and the most well respected because they are durable, reliable, and generally very high quality. You will find that they are a bit more costly than a lot of the other brands out there, but when it comes to cutlery you really do get what you pay for and if you invest a bit more you are going to get a lot more use out of the knives.

If you aren't sure where to buy these brands in your area, you can generally visit your local knife shop and they can show you a nice assortment. If they do not have the knives on hand, chances are they will be able to order them for you, or will be able to direct you to a resource that will have everything that you need. If there is a brand that you know you like, you can often order straight from the manufacturer, which may or may not allow you to get a better deal on the purchase.

Hunting and Bonding

I can still remember my first "real" hunting trip like it was yesterday. I hunted some wild bore once in the army, and was out on some small game trips as well. But I had never really been to the hills to hunt for "buck". I was an invitee and I was more or less just along for the ride. I didn't own a very good rifle at the time but was promised the use of someone's extra. (This is comical to me now because most hunter's can't have enough toy's, er rifles) But I did have several pocket knives (my trusty Case Knives and Buck Knives) that came along for the ride.

One of the lodge members took me under his wing and allowed me to go out hunting with him An elderly gentlemen with a world of knowledge in hunting. This was a very good and lucky break because as it turned out this fellow was not only very knowledgeable but also willing to share his knowledge and experience. He also did have a rifle which he gladly let me use. As I said my Case Knives and Buck Knives were the only thing of use that I had brought along.

My mentor John preferred to hunt alone in a tree stand (a site to sit or stand that is up in a tree) John had built his own platform in a tree, high enough not to be spotted from the ground. Although "home-made" tree stands are not recommended, John was a carpenter most of his life and had a stand that was quite safe and upgraded from time to time. His "platform" was built with the strength to easily hold two since he had built it with the idea of having his son along many times before. He had long studied the terrain for a nice clear sight line including the air currents to keep his scent from being detected. John had been hunting in this area for years and even though deer will change their trails from year to year he always got a buck every year. And this year would be no exception. Immediately you realize the importance for being quiet and observant. This is harder than you may think. But since I had a good teacher it was easy to follow his lead. I must say this truly is a challenge, as you are on the deer's turf.

On that day we did get a nice six pointer (John brought it down with one clean shot) and the experience lives with me to this day. And this is where my Case Knives and Buck Knives came in handy. I actually had better hunting knives than John. I think without such an experience and mentor such as John, I may not have ever had the interest in hunting that I now have today. John was the only lodge member to get a buck, and each and every year he still does.

I have been deer hunting several times since but not with my friend John. The "hunting and bonding" we did that day was a great experience that will last my lifetime. I try to do my best as did John that day in passing along the knowledge and friendship.

The Best LED Flashlight

LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes have been around since the 1920's when it was first discovered by a Russian scientist. The LED has been used in various light applications since then because of its power efficiency to emit bright light on a small amount of energy. LEDs are used in many electrical appliances, streetlights, signage and car tail and headlights. Because of its versatility and ability to emit bright light even on small batteries it is now used in flashlights.

The best LED flashlights in the market may be a bit expensive than the traditional flashlights, but they can be worth the extra money when it comes to the brightness and durability of the LED flashlights. Most LED flashlights will run on AA or AAA batteries and can last longer than the traditional flashlights. Some batteries even use lithium batteries for a longer run time. There are also LED flashlights that come with rechargeable batteries. And because of the LED's capability to be energy efficient, you may not need to replace the batteries as often unlike with the traditional incandescent bulb flashlights.

LED flashlights also light up much faster than incandescent bulbs. From the time that you switch it on, it emits the strong light that you need. With traditional incandescent bulbs, it may take seconds before the bulb gives it full luminescence. The LED bulbs also don't burn out easily. It may take years before the LED bulb gives out so you don't have to buy extra bulbs in case the bulbs get busted like in regular flashlight bulbs. Gone are the days where you need a flashlight and can't use it because the bulbs are busted. With LED bulbs, even if you don't use it often, you can be assured that the bulbs won't run out on you.

Some of the best LED flashlights are compact flashlights but give off bright light for such a small size. There are LED flashlights that are the size of a small pen light but can give the brightness of a small incandescent bulb. These handy flashlights can be worn as key chains so that you can use it in any case of emergency or black out.

There are also LED flashlights that are waterproof. This makes it ideal for camping or for sailing trips because you need not worry about the batteries or the flashlight getting busted because it got wet. The best LED flashlights are also made to withstand shock. So even if you drop the flashlight, you don't have any worries of the bulb breaking and plunging you to darkness if ever that happens.

LED flashlights can be found in most store shelves nowadays. There are LED flashlights that are affordable and those that are expensive are those LED flashlights that are multipurpose and may require extra batteries because of the number of LED bulbs it has installed. The handy pen light LED flashlight may cost as much as the regular bulb flashlight, but the LED flashlight can be more dependable.

Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Black Covert

Overview

Designed by the Legendary Colonel Rex Applegate the Gerber Applegate Fairbairn knife embodies his vision of a folding combat knife. Gerber's Applegate-Fairbairn knife is distinguished by it's one-handed opening and it's liner lock which makes this knife suitable for many situations. The Covert is a 3/4 version of the larger Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife. Designed for inconspicuous carry and covert operations, the Covert has a reversible stainless steel pocket clip which allows for use in a variety of positions. It has an opening stud on both sides of the knife and is readily adaptable for left-handed use. The black titanium coated blade is made from ATS-34 stainless steel and coated with black titanium nitride (nice huh?). The Applegate Fairbairn Covert also is the first knife to incorporate the Interlock, a Gerber exclusive feature. The Interlock is a safety feature that firmly locks the liner in place preventing accidental unlocking of the blade. The extra research and effort put into the Interlock technology allows you to use the knife with as much force as possible and not worry about sacrificing any safety features. After all, a folding knife is as strong as it's weakest point. Normally on a folding knife the hinges are what make them less sturdy then a fixed knife. While this might be the case in general it is minimized with this knife and this allows you to have a folding knife that acts like a fixed knife. Oh my! Three cheers for Gerber Knives. Hip hip, Hooray! Hip hip, Hooray! Hip hip, Hooray!

The Applegate-Fairbairn Covert stands with the Applegate-Fairbairn Combat as one of the lasting symbols of Colonel Rex Applegate dedication, expertise, and sense of purpose to Gerber and Gerber Knives. It should come as no surprise that Applegate Covert knife is known internationally as best-of-class among folding tactical knives. It has deservingly earned a reputation for unmatched strength, durability and balance which are all trademarks of Gerber Knives. Tactical professionals have high fancy for the high carbon stainless steel blade. As well as the glass-filled nylon handles, and the patented Roto-Lock. Opening the blade is smooth and can be accomplished in the closed position with a good flick of the wrist. The ambidextrous thumb studs, which are stepped and work well even with a sweaty thumb, and the hump for the thumb stud can even be used like the Emerson wave feature. The liner lock solidly engages the blade with good depth so you won't end up with an inadvertent release of the lock. The knife is balanced the rear of the finger and thumb grooves. It's easily maneuvered and feels good in your hand. The finger ridges make one handed closing and precision work safe even with a sharpened second edge.

Different Kinds of Kitchen Knives

When you are selecting a good kitchen knives there are a lot of things that you need to consider. There are a few different kinds of blades. The type of steel is also something to consider as well. Certain countries have developed their own blends of steel that have different qualities.
Some different blades to consider are the conventional v-shaped blade that is sharpened from both angles, and the Japanese style blade that is only sharpened from one angle. The v-shaped blade is very sharp but does require more maintenance. It does not need to be sharpened more, but it the blade becomes off center and needs to be corrected by sliding it along a metal rod. V-shaped blades are more of a world standard because it was originally used in more countries and the realigning of the blade is an easier way to manage a constant sharpness. The Japanese style blade is very sharp as well and will stay sharp longer. This is ideal for cooks who do not want to regularly recenter the blade. This blade will need to be sharpened more to maintain ideal sharpness as a result.

Conventional steel is used by knife manufacturers. Higher quality companies use more nickel to prevent rust. However, Spanish steel is stronger. This allows the blade to be sharpened to a much finer blade. This is less common due to its price and availability. Japanese steel is also very strong but it will have a Japanese style blade.

Finally it is important to select a knife that has a full tang. This means that the steel of the blade runs all the way through the handle of the knife. A full tang ensures strength, weight and balance. Most knives that have a full tang make it visable by fastening the handle on either side of the steel, leaving the steel viasble on the top and bottom of the handle.

How to Choose the Right Ghillie Suit

Being the ultimate camouflage tool, there is no end to variations of ghillie suits for sale. You can take your pick from designs that range from leaves and twigs to moss and mud. But if you've got your heart set on buying a suit of your own, take some time to figure out which type best suits your needs. It's more than just about getting the right size.

Color and Texture

Ghillie suits camouflage the wearer by disrupting the human form and mimicking the colors of the surrounding environment. From this alone, you can gather some of the factors involved in selecting a good suit--apart from getting one that fits, you need to choose the color and vegetation that will match the terrain you expect to be on. A leafy green foliage is not going to be much help in a desert environment that is predominantly yellows and browns.

If you feel you need to mimic an environment more accurately, feel free to get a ghillie suit kit and customize the suit accordingly.

Mobility

You'll want to get a ghillie suit that fits your strategy. If you plan to be sitting, stalking, or squatting, the ghillie poncho is an excellent option. This design keeps covers your body while still allowing your legs freedom of movement-very important if you want to move quickly from one location to another, as in paintball or airsoft.

On the other hand, you'll want something different if you plan to lie prone or crawl on the ground. Ponchos are not suitable as they tend to bunch up and get in the way. Your best option is a fitted 2-piece suit, composed of matching jacket and pants.

Comfort

Whichever option you choose, look for suit that will give you a certain degree of comfort. If you plan on crawling, consider choosing suits that are padded in front to make lying on the ground more comfortable. Also, in order to avoid accidents when crawling or moving through foliage, consider using Velcro on your suit instead of zippers or buttons. Similarly, select ones that are lined with pockets on the inside. You do not want your suit to catch on twigs and make unnecessary noise as you move.

Also, consider the weight of your outfit. Ghillie suits can weigh as light as 2 lbs or as heavy as 10 lbs. You can pile a lot of foliage on your suit, but the trade-off is that a heavy outfit can be taxing on your body over a long period of time. In particular, if you are new to combat simulations like paintball and airsoft, you may want to select suits made from light-weight material, so as not to tire you out while you're running.

It also pays to select suits that are water-resistant. When moisture, like rain or morning dew, gets absorbed by your outfit, it can significantly increase the weight of your ghillie suit and wear you out sooner.

Additionals

Ghillie suits provide an incredible advantage in stealth, but you can still do more to improve your camouflage.

Firstly, be sure to be able to disguise your gear. The ghillie suit won't work if you have a backpack or canteen hanging out of your outfit. Take care to hide these items as well. Paint your gun with matte paint. For your rifle, you can opt to use ghillie camouflage, which looks like a long sleeve that covers most of your weapon.

If your suit does not have a hood for your head, you can purchase a ghillie hat to complete your disguise.

Lastly, make sure your skin is not visible through your ghillie suit. Pale skin is easily seen in sunlight or bright moonlight. Apply camo paint on your hands and face, taking care to make it resemble the shadows of leaves. Don't forget to paint your lips in particular, as these tend to stand out quite well.

Other options you can have are suits that are washable, scentless, water-resistant and non-allergenic.

Safety

As mentioned, it can be very hot inside a ghillie suit, particularly when your activities involve running, as in paintball. The inside of a suit can be as hot as 50 C (120 F). Games won't be as much fun when you're dying from heat stroke, so make sure your ghillie suit provides enough ventilation for your body. And don't forget to have some water in a pouch when you're playing.

Finally, remember that Ghillie Suit are naturally flammable-those made of burlap in particular. Accidental burnings are not such a problem for hunting of milsim games like paintball, but is a real danger in military operations where grenades and other explosives are used. Before purchasing, ask if the suit has a fire retardant, or if you need to apply it yourself.

Leupold Rifle Scope - Built to Last

A Leupold rifle scope is built to last. The company has been around for over one hundred years and their first scope was built out of necessity when Fred Leupold had a disappointing hunting trip and knew that a quality scope would make a world of difference. All their scopes come with a full lifetime warranty assuring you that the company stands behind their product and that they produce a superior product. Their customer service is known for being top notch and if you have any questions or problems, they will treat you fairly and take very care of you. The company's lifetime warranty extends even to someone who is not the original owner. Since they put a serial number on all of their products, they know if the scope you have is one of their own.

Recently Leupold issued a warning that fake Leupold scopes were being sold, so if you purchase one be certain to call the company's toll free number at 800-538-7653 and give them the serial number. They will let you know if you are purchasing an authentic Leupold rifle scope. Their scopes are known for the long eye relief they provide. Eye relief is the distance from the eye piece to your eye that allows you to see the entire sight picture. While many scopes offer only 2.5 to 3 inches of eye relief, a Leupold offers 4 inches of eye relief.

A Leupold rifle scope comes in an array of finishes. Although matte black is the most popular, they also come in silver, gloss black, earth tones and trendy anodized colors (the later being available from their custom shop). Leupold also offers a wide range of accessories for their scopes like sun shades, flip open lens covers, anti-reflective devices, scope covers, rubber eyepiece guards and intensifier kits. All their rifle scopes are waterproof, fog proof and shock proof.

The company's top of the line hunting scope is Leupold's VX-7 and VX-7L. It is extremely simple to adjust your aim with these scopes, they can take unbelievable abuse and they are known for their generous eye relief. Special coatings are applied that transmit light frequencies in low light conditions.

The VX-II Leupold rifle scope is moderately priced but built to last. It allows for very good light transmission and has great windage and elevation adjustments. Although the Leupold VX-I is one of their lower priced models that fact certainly does not affect the quality of the scope. It is durable and will give you trouble free performance.

The company also offers European Leupold rifle scopes that are designed specifically for the European market. They provide great optics and the most popular European reticles.

There is a wide array of Leupold rifle scopes that you can choose from and it will not be difficult to find the one that will meet all of your needs. Whether you enjoy hunting, tactical or target shooting, there is a Leupold rifle scope made just for you!

How About a Nice Pocket Knife

The holidays are approaching and there is always that someone out there that you just don't know what to buy. Actually, that isn't just come holiday time that's any gift giving time. But since we are in the holiday season let's talk. At least I'll talk and you'll listen. There are people you know, both men and women alike that are difficult to find a good gift for. Can I make a suggestion?

How about a nice Pocket Knife? Weird? I don't think so. Just think about it for a minute. It is a gift that is carried around in a pocket (or a purse or pocket book) most of the time. So if you look at it like that, then your thought of most of the time. How cool is that? And there are many different kinds of pocket knives for many different people. Let's start with Case Knives and Buck Knives. They really make some cool (and quality) pocket knives that can help you match that hard to find person.

How to choose the right pocket knife will depend on each individuals needs. So you might have to do a little research into the person or persons your buying for. Is this person outdoors a lot? A pocket knife that has a knife and possibly other tools might be best. And don't forget the friend who is a tail gaiter and at his favorite team's parking lot for the big game. Some pocket knives have a handy bottle opener and corkscrew which may not always be available in these situations. And what about the avid golfer? I know both Case Knives and Buck Knives have available quite a few pocket knives that have tools that would help out a golfer quite nicely. There are those that enjoy camping, fishing and hunting. (I'm sure you can think of at least one person you can't find a gift for that fits in this category) There are pocket knives that can be used to saw wood, kill and clean fish and prepare meals. I know of several made by both Case Knives and Buck Knives that fit this bill.

Pocket knives are not only made for the outdoors. Executive pocket knives can fit easily into a briefcase or purse and look quite elegant as well. And there are many varieties of beautiful Pearl Handled Pocket Knife that would make quite a splash as a gift.

So consider buying a pocket knife for the avid outdoor friend, executive or special lady. Start your research as to what type to buy with Case Knives and Buck Knives. It will go a long way in helping you choose.

Picking the Right Tactical Knife

When people hear the term tactical knife, they often think about combat knives issued by the military. This is certainly correct, tactical knives were often given to soldiers for close combat situations. However, there are currently many different types of tactical knives that can be used in many different situations, not just combat situations. With so many different types of knives out there, it can be a little bit difficult to pick the right tactical knife for your situation.

First of all, you still have tactical knives that are issued to military personal, and most countries have their own style they issue. These knives are very popular with collectors and people who enjoy military history. Military issued tactical knives are still used for combat purposes, but have been changed over the years to meet the needs of soldiers. This means they have many usages as a tool; they can cut rope, clear brush, cut firewood, and things of that nature. These knives have been adapted so farmers and outdoors men like them for practical purposes.

There are different types of tactical knives, so here are some basic tips on purchasing the right one for you. Most people should purchase a tactical knife that has a fold down blade. This makes them much easier to carry around, and much safer. The key is making sure the blade has a good lock mechanism, so that it will not slip out and cause damage to your body.

You can also purchase a single blade tactical knife that does not fold. Make sure you transport in a sheath and that you keep the blade and sheath in good condition. These types of tactical knives are great for hunting and camping, but are harder to transport. These are also great for protection while in the woods.

One of the big things you need to remember when buying any knife is to get a good quality blade and a good quality handle. Tactical knives are no difference, and I recommend getting a good steel blade. There are numerous types of grips you can get, but a synthetic material that is durable is a good choice. This is because the grip will hopefully become less slick, and easier to hang onto during wet conditions. A slippery grip can cause a lot of injuries. Of course those synthetic grips do not look as nice as a wood or metal grip, but it will have to be a choice between practical usage and looks when deciding on the correct grip.

If you follow those simple tips, you should be able to purchase the right tactical knife for your situation.

Making Everyday Items Into Weapons For Personal Protection

Human beings are creatures of habit so it's important to make it a habit for yourself to scan and look for items around you that you can use to take someone out in self defense situations. Take a second and look at the room you're in right now. What could you use as a weapon if crap hit the fan? What do you see? There are countless weapons around us every where we go; it's just making yourself aware of these weapons and how we can use everyday items to take out a threat.

When I am walking down the street or as I enter a room, I instantly scan and look around to see what I could use as a weapon. Now here is the golden rule for making everyday objects into weapons. If you can pick it up use it.

Here are some examples.

Shields: Regardless if someone is punching, kicking, thrusting a knife at you, swinging a pipe or using any blunt object, here are some items you can use as a barrier or shield between you and your attacker and his weapon. Then strike him with these items to disarm him.

Chairs
Briefcases
Books
Back packs
Duffel Bags
Stools
Grocery carts
Cutting Boards
Slash resistant shirts ($250 per shirt and looks like an ordinary long sleeve shirt)
Kevlar gloves (slash/stab resistant gloves allowing you to grab a knife/needle for your enemy)

Trippers: Here are some items that you can use to trip up your enemy either by rushing into him causing him to move back quickly or by tripping him off balance.

Curbs
Bushes
Fire Hydrants
Bushes
Benches
Steps
Mail Boxes
Newspaper Boxes
Furniture such as a couch/table/chair

When you see people who wear baggy pants and untied shoes, rush them and they tend to trip up due to their own clothing

Once you rush your enemy and he stumbles or trips, continue with your assault because you're enemy is occupied trying to regain his balance. It is a clear opening for you to finish him off.

Strikers, Slammers & Smashers: Are items that you can strike, smash or slam your enemy's body with. Here are some examples

Steel toe boots are great for kicking shins with make sure you curl your toes back as you kick or the steel plate may injure your toes on impact.

Umbrellas: Short umbrellas are best when holding one in a closed position hold the umbrella with your hand furthest away from the handle, that way the handle makes impact when you strike someone which is the hardest part of the umbrella creating maximum damage.

Bricks
Rocks
Chairs
Bottles
Pots
Pans
Fire extinguishers
Vases
Laptops
Telephone
Rolled up newspapers
Tables
Sidewalks
Walls
Windows
Doors

The list can go on and on. If it's hard and if you can pick it up, use it.

Stranglers: These items will allow you to strangle your enemy and render him unconscious.

Belts
Electrical cords
Ropes
Towels

Offensive Tip: When strangling someone, let's say with a belt, cross the belt so it makes an "X" formation around the neck. Hold the belt with both your hands hanging onto the belt right where the belt begins to form the "X" formation This will give you more leverage in your strangle hold cutting off oxygen and blood flow to the brain much quicker and easier.

Defensive Tip: If you are being strangled either with someone's arm or with an object such as a belt here are a couple of tips that will save you.

- Tuck in your chin this way you prevent yourself from being "choked out" because your enemy cannot cut of the blood flow and oxygen to your brain. Also by tucking in your chin, you now can bite down on the arm much easier from this position.

- If you are being strangled with a belt, as you tuck in your chin, place one of your fingers in between the belt and your neck and pull the belt away from your neck, this way you can maintain breathing and having more time to fight back because there is a gap between the belt and your neck.

- As you tuck in your chin and place one of your fingers in between the belt and your neck, bite or grab a hold of one of your enemy's' fingers, and pull and twist them so he releases his grip. Try bringing the fingers to your mouth so you can then bite them off.

Sprayers: Here are some items that you can spray or throw into your enemy's' face and temporarily impair his vision with. After doing so, you must immediately follow up with your tactics with full commitment or get away. There should never be hesitation when attacking.

Drinks of any type such as water or coffee can be used, but make sure that as soon as you notice a threat, undo the lid as the person approaches you so you have enough time to throw it into your enemy's' face. Then follow up immediately.

Sprays of any type such as hair sprays, perfume or men's cologne is an effective weapon when in a night club washroom and you have trouble coming towards you. The spray container should be already in your hand, spray it into your enemy's eyes and either get away or follow through with full commitment with your tactic. Fire extinguishers are not only great slammers but are also great for spraying someone with as well.

Dirt is another useful spray. Have you ever had dirt in your eye? Then you know exactly what I mean because all you can focus on is getting that piece of dirt out of your eye because your vision is impaired. An example of how to use dirt as a weapon is in the previous chapter.

Stabbers: The next items are great for stabbing people. Keep in mind that you want to stab soft tissue areas such as the eyes and throat which are easier areas of the body to penetrate. Here are some items you can use that are usually around yourself that you can stab someone with.

Knives (house hold or personal blade)
Spoons
Forks
Pens

When using a knife spoon, fork or a pen, place your thumb at the end of it so it is supported firmly. This will prevent your hand from sliding down onto the blade or losing your grip with holding a pen upon impact with your target.

Keys

When it comes to using your keys in self defense situations there is a common misconception on how to properly hold them. You do not want to hold your key in between your fingers while making a fist because when you make impact on your target, the keys will fold into your hand and will injure your fingers because it is not braced firm enough. Instead you want to hold the key using your finger and thumb this way it is firmly supported and will not injure you on impact.

So as you can see you can transform many everyday objects into a weapon to protect yourself with. Remember if you can pick it up then use it as a weapon.

Buck Knives - Don't You Need One?

Many a young man has been welcomed into manhood with the gift of his own knife. The ritualistic giving of buck knives is symbolic of his ability to take responsibility for himself and members of his community. Perhaps this tradition is now somewhat archaic, but there was once a time when it was quite common and as an honored rite of passage.

Modern technology has made these knives very sturdy and more reliable than ever before, featuring a tempered steel blade fastened into a durable handle. Some are of the hunter style with a fixed blade that is fashioned for quick kills. Hunter's knives come with a sheath designed to keep the blade protected from the elements, and keep you protected from the blade.

Along with these, many companies also make pocket knives. These are perhaps even more popular because of the fact that there are many blades in one small package. This creates more versatility and more options for use. From whittling and carving wood to scaling and boning fish, these knives usually do the trick.

This is particularly useful because hunting knives are typically designed to perform only one or two tasks. Obviously, as the name implies, they can help you to kill your prey quickly. They might also make it easier for you to start the cleaning process. However the more intricate detailing of cleaning-namely skinning and boning-may require a little more finesse.

This is why it is quite common to carry both a hunter's knife and pocket knife. It provides you with the ultimate selection of cutlery and other outdoor tools. Among the three or four blades that you have, then, you should be able to accommodate nearly every need you could possibly have on your hunting, camping, or fishing expedition.

Knives that are made for these purposes are designed with extra safety features in mind too. Folding knives, like the pocket knife, lock into place so that they don't slip and cause an accident when they are open. When they are closed tension is used to keep them that way. Similarly, fixed knives have a sturdy handle and a snug-fitting cover.

Whether you are looking for buck knives for hunting, fishing, or camping, there are many styles to choose from. Check them out online for a wide selection of styles and blades and find the one best suited for you or your honoree. You can even conveniently order online 24-hours a day and ship directly to your home.

Clarence Johnson - The Brain Behind The Blackbird

Clarence "Kelly" Johnson, a Lockheed aviation legend, wanted to design an airplane "that use conventional engines and fuel, but still be able to outrace any missile."

Such motive compelled him to play a major role in designing 40 renowned aircraft, one of which is the Lockheed SR-71, a strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed YF-12A and A-12 aircraft by the Lockheed Skunk Works.

Building the SR-71, which was popularly known as Blackbird but often called Sled or Habu by its crew, was not an easy task. Johnson had to invent it from scratch, from the design, the technology, to the materials. Despite the odds, he and his team were able to reduce the cost of some of SR-71's major parts and design the aircraft's many advanced concepts.

Years later, the SR-71 was one of the first aircrafts to be designed to reduce
radar cross section. Though it had a large radar signature to be tracked, the SR-71's defense was high speed and operating altitude. Its standard evasive action was to simply accelerate speed if a surface-to-missile launch is detected.

It is such story of success that placed Johnson in the annals of aircraft design.
His success may also be attributed to his childhood passion for designing airplanes since he started reading Tom Swift novels like "Tom Swift and his Airplane" and "Tom Swift and his Submarine". Born in 1910, seven years after the Wright Brothers made their first successful flight, Johnson designed his first airplane which he called "Merlin 1, Battle Plane".

Johnson finished schooling through scholarships and odd jobs like dishwashing and working as teaching assistant. He received his Master of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1933 from the University of Michigan where he got teaching fellowships and rented the University's wind tunnel to test models of Indianapolis racing cars, aircrafts, and trains.

Starting out as a tool designer for Lockheed in 1933, he went on to serve the company for 50 years. He officially retired from Lockheed in 1975 but "continued as a consultant to the Skunk Works and the Lockheed projects." As a tribute, the Lockheed Rye Canyon Research facility was renamed Kelly Johnson Research and Development Center in 1983.

In his lifetime as an aeronautical engineer, 1932-1984, Kelly was recognized for his unique contributions to aerospace development. He has received over 40 awards, prominent of which are his first and the last award- 1932 Sheehan Fellowship in Aeronautics, University of Michigan and the 1984 Honorary Royal Designer for Industry conferred by the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufacturers, and Commerce, London.

Johnson died on December 21, 1990 after an illness of many years. He left the aerospace development industry with an indelible mark on the design of 40 world renowned aircrafts. Among these aircrafts are the F-80, the first production jet in the US, double sonic F-104 Starfighter, U-2, 2,000 MPH YF-12A, and the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Mastercraft Collection bestseller.

Antonov AN - 22 Antei Heavy Transport Aircraft

The An-22 Antei (NATO designation Cock) is a heavy transport aircraft. In the 1960s the Soviet aircraft industry received an order from the Soviet government to develop a cargo aircraft, capable of transporting intercontinental ballistic missiles. Development of new plane was handed to Ukrainian Antonov design bureau, which specialized in development of cargo planes.

Development works on new aircraft, which would become the An-22, began in 1961. The main requirement for the new aircraft was a capability to take-off and land on soft ground. As a result, developers mounted 12 wheels (6 on each side) in the middle of the fuselage. Such landing gear has some advantages, however it is difficult to steer aircraft on the ground, as the weight is unevenly distributed. Each wheel of the chassis can be controlled separately. As a result the An-22 can operate from unprepared airfields.

Maiden fight of the first prototype of the An-22 took place in 1965. This plane received the name Antei (Antaeus). In the same year the plane was presented a the Paris le Bourget air show. At the time the An-22 was the world's largest aircraft, so it made a huge impression of the audience and received highest marks from appraisers. Even today the Antei is the largest turboprop aircraft in the world.

After a year, during test flights, the An-22 broke 12 world records. his plane has got a total of 41 world records, from which 20 is the merit of the famous woman pilot Marina Popovich's crew.

Production of this military cargo plane was launched in 1969. Besides military loads it was also used to carry agricultural equipment and humanitarian loads to Peru and India. The An-22 was actively used in Afghanistan for transportation of the troops, combat vehicles and supplies, as well as during other military conflicts.

A total of 68 aircraft were built during 1965-1975, from which 2 have never flew, 19 have been preserved, 33 removed from service because of maintenance problems as it has hard to keep the aging planes airworthy, 7 planes have been lost in various accidents. Currently only 7 An-22 planes are in service. Six of them are used by the Russian Air Force and one belongs to Antonov design bureau and is used for civil needs. It has been replaced with the An-124 Ruslan strategic airlifter.

Military Combat Shirts - High Tech Apparel For the Military and Law Enforcement Community

Atlanta based Atlanco and Delaware based Invista have teamed up on a high tech venture in modern combat clothing.  The result of this collaboration is the Tru-Spec TRU combat shirt.  The shirt features a Cordura base layer with sleeves made of traditional rip stop fabric commonly found in military and law enforcement uniforms.  The Cordura base layer is what sets this shirt in a league of its own.

Based on a current military design being tested by air crews in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Tactical Response Combat Shirt is designed to be worn under body armor and protective vests.  This next-to-skin garment is constructed with No Melt/No Drip Cordura Baselayer fabric, the secret to the shirt's protective qualities.  The 60/40 blend of cotton and nylon reduces the severity of burn injuries by charring instead of melting when exposed to heat.  Unlike heavier and uncomfortable Nomex apparel that the military currently utilizes in flight crew operations, the Cordura base layer is known for its durability and abrasion-resistant characteristics.  Cordura Baselayer fabric provides a comfortable, breathable, lightweight solution with exceptional moisture management properties.

The Combat Shirt directly addresses known problems when wearing body armor.  First, the uniform chest and lower pockets are practically useless as they cannot be reached when body armour is worn.  The weight of the pockets on a standard BDU or ACU shirt are unnecessary if they cannot be used.  Additionally, they add uncomfortable bulk under the protective vest.  Pockets on the Tru Spec combat shirt are located on the sleeves instead, where they can be easily accessed.  The second issue the combat shirt addresses is comfort.  In hot weather, a standard BDU or ACU shirt worn under body armour is hot and uncomfortable.  Typically, the soldier or law enforcement officer wears their BDU or ACU top over an additional base layer such as a t-shirt and the whole setup doesn't breathe well.  The end result is a sweaty uncomfortable agent or soldier.  By having a torso made of a lightweight wicking, breathable Cordura baselayer fabric without any pockets, the TRU Combat Shirt eliminates excess material and bulk under your gear thereby increasing comfort when worn under body armour or gear.

The Tru-Spec brand Combat shirt's fully-functional sleeves, based on the original TRU design, are made from Cordura Nyco fabric.  Available in two high-performance fabric options, the Tactical Response Combat Shirt features MultiCam sleeves with a Sand colour body and a separate Army Digital version with a Foliage colour body that incorporates 50/50 nylon-cotton No Melt, No Drip rip-stop sleeves in the ACU pattern. The solid colour options, black, olive drab and khaki, are available in 65/35 polyester-cotton rip-stop sleeves but do not provide thermal protection qualities.

A Special Thank You To Our Veterans

As Sunday, November 11th commemorates Veteran's Day in the USA, we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all current serving and veteran military personnel (U.S. and countries throughout the world) that are fighting for the end of all wars and the promotion of international peace and tranquility.

As my personal blog focuses on the ADD and ADHD, we want to also acknowledge and congratulate all of the military professionals (ADD or ADHD) that have are also serving.

We have discussed the challenges in the past that a ADD or ADHD person interested in serving may have in qualifying to enlist. If you are relying on prescribed medication, one especially appreciates your challenges when you do not have access to it. There is a prequisite for being able to serve where medications may not be accessible.

You are a special inspiration to us all! We can also appreciate the ugliness of war that all verterans have experienced, and the challenges of being able to deal move forward, as the ADD & ADHD persons is continually challenged with.

We all live in a complex world and the problems and possible solutions continue to become more complicated. If we take the ADHD gift of hyperfocusing, one can imagine if everyone hyperfocused on ending all warfare and ill-will.

For all military serving abroad in the name of world peace, we sincerely hope for a quick transition to world peace, and that you will be back with your families home, safe and sound (yesterday)!

Command Supply Discipline Program (CSDP) - Tips For Commanders

The Command Supply Discipline Program is a helpful program for Company Commanders in the Army National Guard. Also known as CSDP, the Command Supply Discipline helps company commanders maintain property accountability and comply with Army Supply Regulations. It also enforces fiscal responsibility and Army policies.

In most units, the Company Executive Officer runs the unit CSDP. He or she works with the Supply Sergeant. Together, they create and update a binder, which has the compiled information. Most CSDP binders have unit SOPs, a self-evaluation checklist, Army Regulations, state policies and initiatives, inventory results, appointment orders and much more. The secret to success with the Army's CSDP program is to be actively involved. Don't just create a binder for the sake of creating a binder.

In essence, CSDP is a way of life. It is an attitude and a mindset. As the Company Commander, you need to let your XO and Supply Sergeant know that your unit Command Supply Discipline Program is a priority. To achieve this, you should participate in inventories and be involved. You shot spot-check the results, every month during drill. Make surprise inspections.

Also, you should create a Supply SOP. If your unit has an effective CSDP, you should consider submitting your company for the Supply of Excellence Award. This is a Department of the Army Award for units with effective, efficient and excellent unit supply procedures and results.

In conclusion, CSDP is an important part of unit supply. As the company commander, you must ensure supply and property accountability is a top priority.

Buying Guide For SOG Knives

SOG knives are popular with lots of people. Just search the term at YouTube and look at the thousands of viewers who watch the knife reviews, many of which, for some reason, begin with, "Hi, Guys..."

Anyway, this overview guide should help you figure out what kind of SOG or other knife you need. It all comes down to one thing...

You're shopping for a good knife. You've surfed a bit, checked out some stores that sell cool looking knives at a discount-knives made by SOG, Spyderco and all the other top brands. But how do you know which is the one for you?

It nearly always boils down to how you'll use it. In other words, the right knife is the knife that matches the tasks you'll be performing with it.

If you've been watching video reviews of SOG knives, you know that opinions vary. For example, take a review of the SOG Aegis, where the reviewer says it's awesome and perfect and SOG rocks, and so on. That doesn't necessarily mean you're going to love it. Nope. You need a knife that will be right for how you intend to use it.

What you'll be using your knife for the most:
Do you need a folding knife, lightweight enough to make it easier to do things around the house, or are you more interested in a tactical knife designed to provide stability, grip, speed and other fast action features? Maybe you're into collecting. You have several beauties and you're just looking for another specimen to add to your display case. Knives are big for outdoor sports, and if you jump at every possible chance to participate in fishing tournaments, the knife for you will be different from what you need to camp/climb/hike. If you're a hunter, a field-dressing knife is critical.

Tasks you might be performing with your knife:
Cutting heavy rope, twigs, etc. in climbing and camping
Field dressing game in the cold of winter
Filleting fish in challenging conditions
Law enforcement or military operations, or survival
Getting the remote control car out of the box at your son's birthday

Other knife features to consider:

Size - compact and foldable for easy and safe carrying or greater blade length for better reach
Weight - very lightweight or heavier, depending on how tough or portable you need it to be
Ergonomics - great grip, designed for one-handed opening and closing, or fixed blade that is always ready
Blade thickness - If you'll be doing heavy work, such as cutting through bone or wood, the blade will need to be thicker and stronger
Specialty - SOG knives and other brands offer field dressing knives, etc.
Blade edge - Blade type varies quite a bit from knife to knife. Saw blade, straight edge, a combination of the two and many other variations will affect performance

Many options in materials:
Blades and handles use many different material types, and the best manufacturers also provide choices in color and other "coolness" factors. The material used affects things like how easy it is to sharpen the knife, how stable or balanced it is, how well it retains its edge and resists rust, how it fits in the hand, how well it grips, especially in difficult conditions, and how well it wears over time.

Great news:
You can actually get a top of the line knife without breaking your budget. Discount knives are just the way it is these days with so many stores competing for sales online. That said, you want to be sure you have a reputable seller who has a secure site and who can be contacted in case you need customer services. But honestly, you can get deals on SOG, Spyderco and all the hottest knives out there.

So figure out what you need, contact the seller for help if necessary, and get the knife that fits how you'll be using it.

Britain's Special Forces

The United Kingdom's Special Forces (UKSF) have been reconfigured and augmented in the wake of the September 11th attacks and the resulting Global War On Terror. Existing units have been augmented in terms of both manpower and budget and additional units have been formed specifically to meet the emerging terrorist threat.

Who are Britain's Special Forces?

The Special Air Service

Perhaps the UK's best known Special Forces unit, the Army's Special Air Service, or SAS is tasked with counter terrorism, reconnaissance and direct action operations. The British SAS consists of 1 regular Regiment, 22 SAS, and 2 reserves Regiments, 21 and 23 SAS. 22 SAS is divided into 4 Squadrons, A, B, D and G of around 60 men in each. Each squadron is made up of 4 Troops, each specialising in a method of insertion - Mobility Troop (vehicles), Freefall Troop (by air), Boat Troop (amphibious) and Mountain (high altitude and Arctic warfare). Each squadron rotates through different roles, including a 6 month stint on the Special Projects team, on standby to carry out counter terrorist operations.

The Special Boat Service

The SBS is a Royal Navy unit manned by ranks drawn mostly from the Royal Marines Commandos and carries out a similar role to the Army's SAS, but, traditionally, with more of a focus on amphibious operations. 2 of the SBS's 4 squadrons, C and X, are configured for general operations. Z squadron specialises in the use of minisubs and small boats and M squadron specialises in Maritime Counter Terrorism. X squadron was created in 2005 in order to boost the manpower available to the SBS.

The Special Reconnaissance Regimemt

One of the UK's newer Special Forces units, the SRR was created in 2005. The SRR is an army unit who's role is to carry out reconnaissance and surveillance operations, often in support of SAS/SBS direct action missions.

18 (UKSF) Signals

The various elements with 18(UKSF) Signals provide communications and signals intelligence support to other UKSF units. 18 (UKSF) complements the Special Reconnaissance Regiment's 'eyes on' role by adding electronic and signals intelligence to the intelligence picture.

Special Forces Support Group

Created in 2005, the SFSG provides direct specialised infantry support to the SAS/SBS in the form of acting as a quick reaction force (QRF), forming a security cordon, and carrying out supplementary and diversionary raids. The SFSG is formed by the 1st Battalion, the Parachute regiment with additional troops from the Royal Marines and RAF Regiment.

UKSF and the Global War On Terror

Afghanistan 2001-Present

The SAS and SBS were both active in the initial stages of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Both units engaged the Taliban and Al Qaeda in a series of skirmishes. In more recent years, the SBS have been focused on the Afghanistan theatre of operations and have carried out a series of actions targeting senior Taliban leaders. In September 2007, the SBS rescued several Italian soldiers from kidnappers in a daring helicopter-borne raid. The SBS have been supported in Afghanistan by elements from the SRR, SFSG and 18(UKSF).

Iraq 2003-Present

During the invasion of Iraq, 2003, the SAS were active in the Western Iraqi desert, attacking Iraqi Scud and communications facilities and sweeping suspected WMD sites. In the south, the SBS secured the beaches on the Al Faw peninsula, operated in the desert and worked with MI6 operatives to bring about the fall of the Baath regime in the city of Basra.

Post-invasion Iraq saw the SAS join a joint US-UK task force, named TF-88 (since renamed several times). TF-88 went about going after key elements of the toppled regime, including Saddam and his sons, and, later, key elements of Al Qaeda and the insurgency. The US Commander in Iraq, General Petraeus, recently praised the SAS. "They have helped immensely in the Baghdad area, in particular, to take down the al-Qaeda car bomb networks and other al-Qaeda operations in Iraq's capital city, so they have done a phenomenal job in that regard" he told The Times in August, 2008. The SAS in Iraq are supported by elements from the SRR, SFSG and 18(UKSF) signals. The SRR are also believed to have carried out operations in support of the British presence in the South, especially in Basra.

Tactical Vest - Enough Pockets For Any Outdoor Activity

A tactical vest can be a useful clothing accessory for many people's closets. Although typically thought of as a military, or law enforcement item, this particular piece of attractive attire can benefit people in numerous capacities. Fans of paint ball, hunters, fishers, and fire fighters can all find a use for this accessory.

The versions of this attractive and convenient piece of personal equipment that are issued to the military are usually made of a strong yet lightweight material. On the other hand, these clothing accessories that are manufactured for use by consumers are typically made out of nylon in order to keep the unit light weight, and to keep the cost more reasonable, although they are available in other materials for the general public as well. Many of these have the option of PV waterproofing so that the person will be comfortable no matter what kind of weather they are worn in.

Hunters and fishers find a tactical vest to be a necessary, and useful, piece of gear. Having one with an abundance of large pockets with wide openings that are easy to reach into makes a day of hunting and fishing go by much smoother. There is ample room for all the ammunition, or fishing lures and hooks, that are needed as well as any knives or other tools that could be necessary for tasks that come up. Indeed, some manufacturers offer a specialized tactical vest that includes pockets large enough for a first aid kit, water bottle or canteen, food, and lots of other pockets that can be customized by you in order to make this piece of clothing accessory work for you.

If paintball, rather than hunting or fishing, is your sport, you will find a vast selection of specialized clothing items to make your enjoyment of the game skyrocket. Ranging in price, depending on the features, there is an affordable tactical vest that offers what you need to maximize your gaming strategy. Available in black, camo, and perfect camo, among other patterns, these sporting accessories offer you a range of storage options. You will find places to store extra paint balls, air canisters, and other necessary equipment. In addition, some models include a foam insert that can offer some protection from a direct hit from a paint ball. This insert can be removed during rising temperatures, or at other times when its use is not desired by the user. Also available are options that resemble just the necessary pieces of a full unit with padding at optimal sites.

For the military, as well as law enforcement, a tactical vest can be made of almost any material. Some are lightweight and offer the option of wearing bullet proof armor underneath it while others have the bullet proof armor sewn right into the fabric itself. Still others, however, have pockets in which to insert armor when it is deemed necessary. In that case, this piece of clothing becomes much more versatile as it can be used both with the armor and without, whichever the user needs at any given moment.

Ancient Roman Warfare - The Most Notable Aspects

The rise of the Roman Empire marked the history of Europe and the entire Mediterranean region for centuries even after its fall. This vast empire could not be built without armies and soldiers. There is a lot that can be said about the Ancient Roman warfare, but you can focus on its most important aspects first.

The Ancient Roman army is the first professional one in the history of mankind. The reforms of Marius in the 1st century BC allowed for the organization of trained soldiers into permanent military divisions. The Roman army was formed primarily of light infantry. The men were armed with swords and even though they had armors their shields played an important part in the combat.

Rome is primarily known for its infantry legions, but during the years of the Empire the use of auxiliary troops became an integral part of any combat strategy. The use of cavalry and skirmish units was constantly growing. As a result their role became critical for the winning of any battle. Eventually the auxiliary troops and the foreign mercenaries develop into the core of the Roman army which was one of the reasons for the fall of the empire.

The Roman warfare infantry tactics became more sophisticated with the expansion of the Empire. They grew more refined and flexible with the development of the state. The strategies varied widely depending on a number of factors even though the majority of battles involved the direct marching of troops and the engagement in direct combat. The sophisticated military intelligence as well as the high morale played a critical role for the creation of every strategy.

The Roman warfare did not involve many sea battles, but the use of a naval fleet was vital for the deployment of infantry troops, armament and supplies.

Choosing the Right LED Light For Any Situation

Light is a crucial element of day-to-day existence, and possessing the correct type of lighting both at home and on the go can mean the difference between safety and darkness. Advances in LED technology have made LED lights the most efficient and dependable in any situation. Here's a guide to choosing the best LED light products for the home, car and the outdoors.

LED Lights for the Home

It's a good idea to keep LED flashlights in multiple areas throughout the home so they'll be handy during power outages or any time you need to illuminate a dark corner. An LED flashlight features a longer battery life than a traditional light, plus you get brighter light from a more compact product, so it's easier to stash in a drawer. Consider also clipping a small LED light on your keychain for help unlocking your door in the dark.

For home improvement projects that require a hands-free light source, an LED headlamp is also a handy light to have around the home. It provides plentiful light without becoming hot during extended use.

Emergency Disaster Kit

Every home needs an emergency or disaster kit with important items such as a portable radio, first aid kit, extra cash, batteries, necessary phone numbers, a flashlight, etc. LED flashlights are great candidates for any home emergency kit, as they will last a long time without needing replacing. Basic tools are also a helpful addition to your emergency kit, and an LED multi-tool offers plenty of utility without taking up a lot of space.

LED Lights for the Car

There are certain items no car should be without: a blanket, water, jumper cables, seatbelt cutter, tire gauge, flares, basic tools and, of course, a flashlight. You can kill several birds with one stone by stowing away an LED multi-tool for vehicles that combines a seatbelt cutter, tire gauge, windshield hammer and LED flashlight. An LED headlamp is another great tool to keep in your car in case you need to change a tire or jump start your car in the dark.

Outdoor Recreation

Whether you're camping, fishing, hiking or hunting, an LED light is a basic survival tool you should never travel without. Because of their compact design, LED flashlights are highly portable, and an LED multi-tool with a small toolkit, compass and light can help you save on packing space. Anglers and hunters may also want to consider an LED headlamp that will allow them to carry gear in both hands, while campers can reduce fire hazards (and eliminate the need for matches) by replacing traditional lanterns with a flameless LED lantern.

LED lights are not only inexpensive, but they offer considerable savings over time. The versatility of LED lighting makes it a helpful tool for just about any situation.

Most Tactical Fixed Blade Knives Fail - Here's Why

What's wrong with tactical fixed blade knives these days? Some knife buyers will argue that knives just aren't made the way that they used to be. Others say that "If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself".

At any rate, knife owners across the globe are finding new problems and issues with their tactical fixed blade knives that you should know about.

You might be OUTRAGED by:

1. Broken tips

2. Rusted blades

3. Poor Edge Retention

4. Slippery handles

5. AWFUL sheaths

Have no fear! I'm sharing 5 secrets with you today that will help you to get the best out of your next purchase.

1. Before you buy tactical fixed blade knives, think about what you will be using them for. If your knife will be used for prying, scraping or hacking then the fixed blade with a stunningly thin point is not for you.

Buying a tactical fixed blade knife with a thin point is wonderful for puncturing or making precise cuts, but it will probably break if used hard enough.

2. Is sharpness an issue with you? I hope so!

High carbon tactical fixed blade knives are well-known for having the best edge retention on earth. The catch with these knives is that they will rust VERY quickly if you don't keep them dry and lubricated with light oil.

3. Look for knives with harder (higher carbon) stainless steel.

This type of steel will be sharp when you need it to be while resisting corrosion at the same time.

4. Imagine your hand slipping on the handle of your knife and GASHING your palm wide open. While this is not a pretty site, it can and will happen if you don't do the proper research.

Sometimes the most expensive handle material is also the most dangerous! Check out tactical fixed blade knives with subhilts for an extra piece of mind.

5. Hard plastic sheaths are known to be especially tough and weather resistant.

It can be more difficult to draw your knife from these sheaths, though.
